Beware of fake tax transcript emails

December 20, 2018

If you get an email claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with an attached tax return transcript file, delete it. The IRS recently warned that scammers are using this new messaging and attachments to get people to click on the file and infect computers with malware.

Remember that the IRS does not send unsolicited messages to taxpayers, especially containing sensitive information like a tax return transcript.
